A New/Old Favorite

I saw Super 8 today and despite the numerous rave reviews it still blew me away.

I'm not going to go into a deep synopsis of the characters and story for two reasons: first, because as Andy Bernard says "I'm not insightful enough to be a movie critic", and second, because its just not that kind of movie.
Let me shed a bit of light on the post title.  This movie is a movie that couldn't have been done twenty or maybe even ten years ago. The special effects are really just plain jaw dropping. This might be the first movie I can ever remember sitting back in my chair and saying, wow (or at least thinking it, as this movie is to intense for talking). As for the old part, this film goes back to when child actors got real roles and actually had good acting skills. The movie has a very E.T. or The Goonies feel. I can't really sum it up any better than that. Sure there are some badly acted lines and the typical corny ending, but you really can't hate them. The only thing I have to complain about doesn't even have anything to do with the film. I just don't see how this got a PG-13 rating. I'm not going to start pointing out flaws as there are numerous other sites for that, it is simply my opinion that Super 8, like The Dark Knight before it, barely got a pass and probably had to wave a bit of money around as well.
But enough about whats wrong with this movie (which isn't much) the point is that you owe it to yourself to pass on the next Transformers or *insert romantic comedy* to see a good movie that will keep you completely entertained the whole way through.
